Report June, 2009:
Things are going on very well here in Dumka. We had over ten crusades in March. First we went 120 km to a place called Barhet. This place is very interior with terrible roads, so it takes over four hours to get there. During the arrangements for the crusade, there were threats received from Hindu people speaking against the event. Never before has the name of Jesus been publically proclaimed there, and we were not sure what to expect. Yet, when we arrived, there were over 100 people gathered inside the area, and more peeking through the cloth partitions. We proclaimed the name of Jesus to them all, people went forward for prayer and were healed, and at the end many came forward to receive Jesus. Children were gathered at the sidelines, looking shy and scared for most of the event. All attempts to be friendly with smiles and song gathered no response. Elizabeth then remembered she had a bag of balloons for Ruby, and decided to pass them out. After that, all the children responded with warm, welcoming smiles and many of the parents looked happy.
Another crusade was held in a Naxalite area. The Naxalites, also called the Naxals, are groups of men waging a violent struggle on behalf of landless labourers and tribal people, against landlords and any who oppose them. They say they are fighting oppression and exploitation; however they have killed many innocents along the way. Others say the Naxalites are terrorists oppressing people in the name of a class war. A lot of people told us not to go there as it is very dangerous for Believers. We have heard how the Naxals have stormed vans and stolen everything from all those inside. However, by the grace of God we had a wonderful crusade and Jesus was preached in this area. There were about 80 people gathered. After, we showed the film of Jesus in their native language. We have started a house church there and now four family’s get together in that village. We expect good things and will continue with encouraging the house church/follow up.
In other crusades Jesus healed more people, ten were baptized in one village alone, and many received Jesus as their Saviour. I won’t mention all the crusades individually otherwise it will be a long letter. Please continue to pray for us as there will be two more crusades the end of this month, and always there are more upcoming. We also continually travel to interior places to encourage the house churches and the leaders who bravely go forward for Christ. We always know that is it only through God’s grace that we are able to do anything.
